Genital HPV Review
If you are infected with genital warts there are a few things that you can do to treat them and avoid getting them again in future. It is important to note that the genital warts are not the disease but are the physical manifestation of the human papilloma virus. The virus is sexually transmitted and is highly contagious. There is 60% chance of getting the virus if you have sexual intercourse with an infected person. The disease can be passed on through anal, virginal or oral sex.
The first step is to have a medical checkup. There are three types’ tests that are done to determine if you are infected. There is treatment available for genital warts but not the human papilloma virus. The genital warts can be treated by taking medicine or having them removed surgically. Your body can fight off the virus but that may take months or even years. Once the genital warts have been removed you will still have to have follow-up appointments as the warts can recur.
Women should have regular pap smears if cervical dysplasia has been detected. This should be done until you have had at least four consecutive normal tests. When you have your regular check-ups, be sure to screen for other sexually transmitted diseases as well. Having a healthy life style is important, make sure to include foods that help build your immune system so that you body may be able to fight of infections. Cut down on the intake of alcohol and cigarettes, they have been linked with warts. Lastly be faithful to one sex partner, having multiple partners will put you at risk.
