How Can I Prevent H1N1 – 3 Ways to Prevent H1N1 Swine Flu

Swine flu is fast becoming a hot topic in the media. Fall is just around the corner and that means flu season for most of the northern hemisphere. The more people talk about this issue and the more cases that pop up in communities close to home, the more likely the chance you will be asking yourself. “How can I prevent H1N1?”

Swine flu is dreadful. The list of symptoms and their effect on victims are the stuff of horror movies. Compounded is the fact that the vaccine is untested, there is no guaranteed cure, and the virus kills. The fact that H1N1 kills may be the only “fact” we can rely on. You can add to that the ugly rumors surrounding the proposed vaccine and the difficulty knowing when or where swine flu will strike next and you have the recipe for a very difficult pill to swallow.

Prevention will be the key to defeating H1N1 and here are some techniques to help do that.

1st) Keep your hands clean. By that I mean germ free. The best way to do that is to wash them thoroughly and often with anti-bacterial soap. The C.D.C.(Center for Disease Control) has released a YouTube video with step by step instructions if you need them. If soap is unavailable use an alcohol based hand sanitizing gel.
2nd) The swine flu virus can live on inanimate surfaces. Be mindful of that when you are in public places. Door handles, elevator buttons, and railings are all examples of objects that can potentially transmit H1N1 you your hands.
3rd) Learn the symptoms. The virus is contagious. You should familiarize yourself with the symptoms and identify people that may be contagious. Avoid them unless it’s absolutely necessary to have contact.
