Listening to Binaural Beats Recordings – Can You Do it Too Much?
Can you listen to binaural beats too much or too often?
I have recently heard some people asking about whether or not they can use binaural beats too much. One woman asked if it could actually be harmful. Another wondered if it could induce a seizure if you had epilepsy. I hopped onto a popular new-age self-help forum and did some research. The following explains some of what I discovered as well as my own opinion on the subject.
No such thing as too much!
The consensus I found was that using binaural beats cannot be done too often. No one reported any negative side-effects. One person mentioned that listening brought up intense emotions, but it wasn’t harmful. Another talked about listening to binaural recordings during the day, both at home and at work, and for eight hours a night while sleeping. He was very happy with the results.
What do I think?
I have listened to binaural beats on numerous occasions and really enjoy them. They calm me down, relax my nerves and clear my mind. I am a thinker, so if I focus on a mantra or a specific theme while meditating, it inevitably becomes a series of thoughts. When I meditate, I’m trying to have feeling experiences and get rid of the thoughts. With binaural beats, the sounds take away the element of language and put me into a different head-space than I’m usually in. After listening, I feel cleansed and refreshed.
I personally don’t think you can listen too much. I don’t see how it could harm you. If you have a specific medical condition or are worried for some reason, definitely consult a medical professional. You can also contact the person who developed the beats you’re listening to and see if they have any advice on how to best interact with what they’ve produced.
Some common sense
If you’re prone to becoming emotional or getting sleepy while meditating and/or relaxing, I wouldn’t recommend listening to binaural beats while driving, while giving a presentation to the boss at work, while your partner is trying to have an important conversation with you, etc.
On the other hand, if you feel energized by your practice, you might want to try it out while doing something creative like painting or writing.
