Surround Air XJ-3800 Intelli-Pro Air Purifier – Superior Multi-Stage Filtration
The name “XJ-3800″ may sound like a 1950s rocket ship, and it does look like space-age technology, only for the 21st century. The Surround Air XJ-3800 Intelli-Pro air purifier houses some of the most up-to-date air cleaning technology around, and it offers it in depth.
One major reason is its stellar filtration system.
After the pre-filter, the electrostatically-charged dust collection grid cleans out large particles. Those particles stick to the grid until you clean them off in the sink or outside.
Following that is an activated carbon filter. Mechanically, charcoal filters act like sieves to remove relatively large particles; chemically, it safely forms loose bonds with dozens of common household molecules. Homes filled with paint fumes, cat litter odor and more are cleared out in no time.
The HEPA filter captures a wide array of potential allergens, such as most bacteria and some viruses, by removing at least 99.7% of particles down to 0.3 microns.
Going beyond those effective, but common, filtration methods the Surround Air XJ-3800 incorporates photocatalytic oxidation to reduce odors, destroy harmful chemicals, and kill bacteria. Its titanium oxide-coated filter generates ions that combine with airborne water vapor to create hydroxyl radicals. Those kill airborne organisms and clear the air from harmful indoor pollutants like formaldehyde (a common outgassing of new carpeting), and others.
Simultaneously, a UV lamp inside the case irradiates air in the unit. That germicidal action requires no chemicals. The net result is clean, clean air. Gone are dust, smoke, mold, odors, chemicals, bacteria and other microorganisms. That is, anything and everything airborne that can harm your eyes, nasal passages, and lungs.
As home air purifiers go, the Surround Air XJ-3800 Intelli-Pro is in the middle of the pack on noise generation. On low it produces 35 dB, on medium 45 dB. Both will let you sleep soundly. On high, it produces some noticeable ‘white noise’ at 52 dB. Even at that level, though, it isn’t difficult to hear the TV at normal volume.
Of course, clean air produced quietly is the main point, but it’s also good to see how the unit is operating. The XJ-3800 incorporates numerous sensors and indicators to do just that.
When the unit senses a quick rise in pollens, household chemicals, and more, it automatically speeds up the fan. Open a window on a pollen-laden day and your XJ-3800 may well automatically turn itself on high until the air is cleared. Light up a cigarette and the unit might go into overdrive.
At the same time, a series of indicator lights show you what’s going on ‘under the covers’. Some clue you when to change the filters. Another lets you know it’s time to clean the dust collector grid. The UV and ionizer lights show those components at work.
