Swine Flu – How to Protect Yourself From Swine Flu, Naturally
Swine Flu is big news and is generating a lot of fear around the world at the moment, but do we really need to be afraid? The safest, easiest and most effective way to protect yourself from swine flu, or any other infection, is to naturally strengthen your immune system.
The truth is that our bodies are exposed to viruses, bacteria, or other infections on a daily basis, but it is only when our immune system is in a weakened state that we pick them up. There are many factors that can depress the immune system, both temporarily and chronically. A few of the most important are: toxicity, nutritional deficiencies, emotional states, stress and physical exhaustion.
The easiest place to start in protecting yourself from swine flu this winter is ensuring that you have a good supply of healthy nutrition. Improving this one factor alone will often improve all the other factors mentioned above- correct nutrition will help the body detoxify, help balance emotional states and stress, and create more energy.
Eating a good diet is obviously important, but sadly I have found that unless you are eating a balanced organic diet including lots of fresh fruits and vegetables then you would probably benefit from a quality multivitamin to supplement your daily vitamin and mineral intake.
This is a good start generally, but in winter I have found a few nutrients in particular are worth supplementing to boost your immunity and disease-proof your body. The deficiency that we find most commonly associated with poor immunity in the clinic is zinc.
Zinc is involved in a huge number of functions and enzyme reactions in the body, so improved immunity is only one of the many benefits of boosting your zinc levels.
Another one of the most effective nutrients in boosting immune system and preventing colds and flu is vitamin C. Everyone has heard this before, but supplementing a good dose of vitamin C daily has been shown to have huge benefits in preventing all infections, especially winter colds and flu.
Recent research has revealed that low vitamin D levels are another common factor in poor immunity, especially in winter, as vitamin D is normally produced in our skin in response to sunlight exposure.
I have found that the combination of a good multivitamin to supply other essential nutrients, along with an extra boost of these three key nutrients (zinc, vitamin C and vitamin D) to be more effective in boosting immunity and preventing winter flu, than any other combination of herbs, nutrients, pharmaceuticals or vaccinations.
I would also include drinking plenty of fresh water with these key essentials. Dehydration is a common precursor to bacterial infection, and most people drink less in the cooler months.
There are also two other things that I have found to have a massive impact on immunity. One is a homeopathic remedy called Flu/Immune Remedy, produced by NET (Neuro Emotional Technique) USA. This is extremely effective as both a treatment and preventative for colds and flu. This is a “practitioner only” remedy. You should be able to pick it up from any NET registered practitioner. These are mainly chiropractors, although NET is also practiced by some psychologists and other professionals.
The other immune booster that I have found effective with my clients is a high anti-oxidant nutritional super juice called Mona Vie. This is a blend of 19 fruits, including the Brazilian berry Acai, which has been shown to have numerous health benefits. This is available through independent distributors worldwide.
Our level of exercise and physical activity has also been shown to play an important role in our immunity. Even just 10 minutes a day of focused exercise, such as brisk walking, has immune-stimulating benefits.
Our emotional state has also been shown to have a huge impact on the function of the immune system. Simply improving our nutrition and daily exercise levels is likely to have a large impact on our emotional health. However, if you are a person who tends to suffer the “winter blues” then it may be worth seeking some form of help, such as an NET treatment, if you want to naturally improve your immunity.
If you follow these simple steps you will go a long way towards “disease-proofing” your body against Swine Flu or anything else this winter.
