Swine Flu – Prevention

The Swine Flu or “Mexican Flu” is spreading throughout the world at an alarming rate, and it’s killing a portion of its victims! What can you and your loved ones do to protect yourselves from its ravages? Note that the items below are not listed in any particular order of priority or importance and that they are bulleted rather than numbered, to emphasize the fact that one is not necessarily more important than the other. The important thing to keep in mind is that all these preventive measures strengthen your immune system to withstand and ward off disease!

Eat well. Eat a variety of fresh organic fruits, vegetables (raw and cooked), nuts, legumes, fish and meats, etc. Make vegetables and fruits at least 50% of your diet. STAY AWAY FROM HEAVILY SWEETENED, PROCESSED FOODS such as breads (unless it’s organically-derived – preferably sprouted – grain that you can digest), bakery items, tv dinners, fast food of all kinds, etc. Sleep sufficiently. At least 8 hours of restful sleep is needed for your body’s immune system to function in top form and your body to be rejuvenated! Exercise daily. Your immune system responds well to a good 30 minutes a day of various types of exercise. Mixing up the type of exercise every now and again nudges the body to stretch itself and grow stronger and more robust in the face of stresses and disease. Maintain healthy bowel/urinary tract function. This involves drinking up to a gallon of water a day for adults and up to 1/2 gallon of water a day for children – especially during hot weather. It also involves consuming sufficient amounts of roughage and fiber (mainly through consumption of vegetables, fruits, and whole grains), and, if necessary, consuming foods known to promote bowel movement, such as prunes and prune juice. In the case of constipation, do not take laxatives, but rather take a whole-herb bowel cleanse formula that not only helps move the bowels but also heals them. Practice relaxation daily. Whether it be meditation, breathing exercises, yoga, prayer, or whatever other form of “active relaxation,” be sure to implement it in your daily schedule, spending at least 10 – 30 minutes in deep relaxation. By doing this, you are allowing your body’s immune system to regroup in the midst of your hectic, stressful day, and, thus, you are teaching your body how to relax in stressful situations. NOTE: WATCHING TV OR A MOVIE IS NOT PRACTICING DEEP RELAXATION! That is a form of recreation, which can be beneficial to your health, as well (see the following item). Recreate and have fun. Take your nose away from the proverbial grindstone at least once a week to play and have fun! Get completely away from your stress and work by involving yourself in an activity that you enjoy and into which you can immerse your entire self, be it sedentary (e.g., working a cross-word puzzle, listening to music of your choice, watching a TV program, movie, or sports that you’re greatly interested in, playing cards, talking with friends, etc.) or physically taxing (e.g., participating in sports of all kinds). Engaging yourself completely is the key. Mindless activity that you do not particularly enjoy does not count! Supplement appropriately. Especially during times of sickness all around you, in addition to doing the above, you will be wise to feed your immune system with bio-available, whole-food supplements to further strengthen and fortify your body to successfully reject the attack of prevailing bacteria and/or virus. There are several excellent whole-herb products on the market that, besides containing a plethora of vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients, also provide naturally-occurring anti-viral and anti-bacterial action. Besides these, there are extremely powerful and safe non-drug products available such as ASEA and colloidal silver which are widely known for their highly-effective anti-bacterial and anti-viral action. While these last two products are usually taken at the onset and during the course of the illness, they, nonetheless, are wonderful disease preventers. These and the whole-herb supplements can be taken daily without negative side effects for as long as is needed. Many people take them as a daily supplement year round, and they report great health throughout the year! Maintain a positive, gracious attitude. An attitude of gratitude sets a healthy tone for your mind, body, and spirit, and, thus, strengthens your immune system to withstand stress and disease. By actively and deliberately creating positive and thankful thoughts throughout the day – especially when things are not going well for you – not only do you strengthen yourself to ward off disease, but you also strengthen yourself to more constructively deal with all manner of stressful situations, including sickness, when it does occur!
