The Recent Flu Vaccine Combination

In the past, flu vaccinations were recommended by doctors only to those mature in age, with bad health issues or those with a weakened immune system that could catch the virus easily.

That has changed. Dr. Isador Rosenfield, MD who works at New York Hospital Wiel Cornell Medical Center as a Professor of medicine, as well as many other doctors, are now saying that the vaccine should go to everyone over the age of 6 months.

The flu vaccination has been modified this year to include protection against H1N1 (also known as the Swine flu) as well as the typical Flu A and Flu B protection. You can request for the vaccination without the added H1N1 protection if you want as well.

Nowadays, you can find many places that offer the flu vaccinations besides just your doctor’s office. Walgreens and other pharmacies offer the vaccination for a low cost of around $30. In addition, many work places are also offering the flu vaccination to their employees as an added benefit.

Some people may not choose to become vaccinated for the H1N1 vaccine because of a rare disorder that developed as a result called Guillian-Barre syndrome back in 1976. The Guillian-Barre syndrome attacks the nervous system but most people recover from this disorder.

While you can still get the vaccine without the H1N1 vaccine by asking for it, Dr. Rosenfeld says that the odds of developing the Guillian-Barre syndrome are extremely unlikely.

Just as anything, you should always be informed about the vaccine so you can make your own decisions on whether or not to get it. Millions of people make the decision to be vaccinated every year.

Learn the risks and the benefits that are associated with getting vaccinated by visiting your doctor to make an informed decision on whether or not the flu vaccination is for you.
